Job Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director for Research and Instrumentation, and working alongside our Research Manager, this role involves supporting our coal mine ground control research activities and playing a role in the expansion of Rock Mechanics Technology.
Overseeing a range of research activities the role involves directing and commissioning highly technical research, liaising externally with our European partners and internally within RMT`s consultancy and instrumentation departments. The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking specific research in its own right and précising the work of others in the company to ensure technical reports are written and delivered to the high standard required.
Job Requirements:
The successful candidate will be actively involved in research activities and in research project management, ensuring that our research commitments are fulfilled both technically and financially, and developing proposals for new projects:
* Actively involved in both research activities and in research project administration;
* Liaising externally with our European partners comprising coal producers, mining machinery manufacturers and coal research institutes;
* Liaising internally with our consultancy and instrumentation departments in order to ensure that our research commitments are fulfilled both technically and financially;
* Carrying out thorough research before developing proposals for new projects;
* Directing and commissioning highly technical research activities; and
* Précis the work of others in the company, to deliver well written, competent technical reports.
Additional Information:
The successful candidate will:
* Be qualified to at least degree level within rock mechanics, mining, engineering, engineering geology, geotechnical engineering or a similar discipline, demonstrating previous research experience, preferably with a postgraduate qualification;
* Maintain membership to a relevant professional body, either with or actively seeking Chartered Engineer status;
* Have demonstrable theoretical and practical experience within research activities and research project administration and management;
* Have thorough knowledge and understanding of coal mining, ground control and rock mechanics; and
* Have excellent written and verbal communication skills (in English).
